Siblings,
On Thursday, I informed the CAPS-UAW Elections Committee that I am suspending my campaign for District 3 Head Steward.
After reviewing the results, it’s clear that now is not the time to move forward with a three-way runoff for the sixth District 3 Head Steward position. From the start, our campaign faced real headwinds—but we kept our focus on staying positive, fighting hard, and lifting up the issues that matter most to members.
We organized a campaign that was militant, progressive, and true to our values. Along the way, we brought together members from across District 3 who believe in a member-led, transparent, and fighting union. We spoke up for pay equity, for holding the line against forced RTO, and for defending our contract. We stood in solidarity with working people everywhere—including with Palestinians struggling for justice.
I’m deeply grateful to every person who supported, encouraged, and stood with me in this fight. We learned valuable lessons, built relationships, and demonstrated that many members value experience, courage, and integrity over affiliation or politics.
This movement isn’t over—it’s just entering its next phase. District 3 members now have a critical choice in the runoff election. I urge everyone who shared our vision for a democratic, member-driven union to rally behind Katey Rein for District 3 Head Steward.
Katey has shown tremendous leadership as Chair of the CAPS Member Action Committee, organizing hundreds of Contract Action Team members statewide and helping make our Defiance for Science strike such a historic success. She’s a principled, tireless advocate for members—exactly the kind of leader our union needs now.
Please visit kateyrein4caps.com and give her your full support.
Though this campaign ends here, our shared movement continues. We’re just getting started.
Solidarity forever,
Steve
