Why I Am Running for CAPS, UAW Local 1115 District 3 Head Steward

CAPS-UAW is in desperate need of rank-and-file leaders steeped in the rich tradition of grassroots organizing. I’m running for Head Steward to put all my organizing and leadership experience to work in service of stewards and the entire membership.
I am a second-generation CAPS-UAW member with deep and broad organizing experience. I invite you to join my campaign to build a supermajority capable of winning major concessions for the working class. State scientists have weathered record inflation, furloughs, and a persistent gender pay gap relative to peer classifications. Our campaign will channel frustration into coordinated, member-led action that delivers durable gains.
I offer unparalleled union experience, serving or having served on the following decision-making bodies:
CAPS-UAW Bargaining Committee
CAPS-UAW District 3 Rules Committee
CAPS-UAW District 3 Member Support Team
CAPS-UAW RTO Working Group
CAPS-UAW Political Action Working Group
CAPS-UAW Catalyst Committee
CAPS-UAW Contract Escalation Working Group
CAPS Member Action Committee
CAPS Government Affairs Committee
CAPS Contract Action Team
I invite you to review my abridged platform below, visit my website, and subscribe to our campaign newsletter.
I humbly ask for your vote for one of the six D3 Head Steward positions. Please vote Oct. 8-15.
Thank you for your support!
In solidarity,
Steve

(1) Pay equity NOW! We’ll empower member-leaders and embark on a comprehensive campaign the likes of which the State has never seen.
(2) Hell No RTO! We will expand on our efforts to mobilize State workers in the tens of thousands to fight off forced return-to-office (RTO) for good! I am a leading voice against RTO and have honed my messaging and ability to mobilize colleagues at scale.
(3) Defend our contract! Our industrial civil rights are only as safe as our ability to prevent and remedy violations.
(4) Break down barriers! We’ll make participation easy, accessible, and meaningful.
(5) EARN our votes! We’ll hold elected officials accountable for their decision to renege on our contractually agreed-upon raises.
(6) ICE Out! We will empower members to know their rights and apply pressure to management to safeguard our members from ICE terror. I have been spearheading engagement with CalEPA management around this issue, largely without assistance from union leadership. That changes once I’m elected.
(7) Free Palestine! We will demonstrate unprecedented solidarity with Palestinians experiencing genocide.
(8) Defend “DEI” and “CRT”! We’ll go on offense and continue to root out instances of legacy discrimination and actively unburden the most impacted communities disproportionately impacted by environmental harm.
(9) Rescue science from politics! I’ll defend members’ right to communicate science free from political interference.
(10) Stop the Slash! We will engage with coalitions pushing back against these devastating cuts to research that protects public health and the environment.
